Men's Tennis Win Streak Extends To Three With Two Wins On Saturday

Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside men's tennis team extended its season-best winning streak to three matches Saturday afternoon, winning both games of a doubleheader at the SRC Tennis Courts.
The Highlanders started the day with a 4-3 victory over College of the Desert, and ended the weekend with a 7-0 sweep over Riverside City College.
Against COD, UCR won the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2. Austin Andres and Felix Macherez won 8-4 at the top spot, and Kevin Griffin and Jimmy Roberts won 8-5 at No. 2.
In singles, the teams' split the three matches, giving the Highlanders enough points for the win. College of the Desert was up 3-2, however, but Roberts battled back at No. 2 for a win, and Luis Gastao similarily rallied at No. 4 for the Highlanders.
"It was a match of effort on the team's part," Head Coach York Strother stated.
In the afternoon match, the Highlanders jumped out to an early lead, winning all three doubles matches for the first point.
UC Riverside likewise cruised in the singles matches, winning all six in straight sets to complete their first sweep of the season.
The Highlanders continue their homestand at the SRC Tennis Courts hosting UC San Diego on February 16 at 2:00 pm.
