Kevin Griffin Honored With Stan Morrison Best Teammate Award

The UC Riverside Athletics Department hosted its 2012-13 Scotty Awards on Tuesday evening at Hub 302 on UCR's campus, honoring the achievements of the 2012-13 Highlanders student-athletes.
Men's Tennis senior Kevin Griffin was the recipient of the Stan Morrison Best Teammate Award presented annually to the UCR student and varsity athlete whose actions both on and off the field exemplify the concepts and ideals of team and teamwork.
Griffin is an accounting major who always leads by example. He was always early to workouts, training, and matches, and would keep his teammates on track during practices. On the court, his’s voice was the most prominent during matches, yelling to support teammates and keeping fans engaged.
Head Men’s Tennis Coach Tim Downey says that Griffin has been a classic example of the type of student athlete that represents UCR so well, as he has been a SAAC representative and has donated his time to visit community schools. Coach Downey concludes: “Kevin epitomizes the goal of UCR Athletics—that of ‘building champions’!”
Throughout the evening, the Highlanders also celebrated their Big West All-Conference award winners, Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) members, graduating seniors, and Big West Scholar Athletes. Additionally, nine other awards were presented to deserving student athletes for excellence both on and off the field.
