UCR Still Searching For First Big West Win After 4-1 Loss To Pacific

Pacific 4, UC Riverside 1 - Box Score
Stockton, CA—The UC Riverside Women's Soccer Team has hit a rough patch to start the Big West Conference portion of its schedule as two late goals helped Pacific to a 4-1 win over the Highlanders Sunday afternoon.
UCR's (5-8-2, 0-3-1) last win came on September 28 in a 3-2 victory over UNLV. Since that time, the Highlanders have been in every contest, but managed just one tie out of their four conference matches. The past two matches, they have been without the services of the conference's leading goal scorer, Heidi Garrett (Riverside, CA), who was injured last week against Cal Poly.
The Highlanders were without another starter for much of the match as midfielder Letty Villalpando (Moreno Valley, CA) played just 19 minutes after injuring her shoulder. The injury occurred early in the first period after the Tigers (8-5-0, 3-1-0) had staked themselves to a 1-0 lead on Kristina Wavomba's sixth goal of the season. Pacific's keeper crashed into Villalpando in the box sending her to the sideline and giving UCR a penalty kick. No card was issued, however, and the Highlanders were unable to convert.
The 1-0 lead held up until Kim Hargrave's first goal of the year with 12:20 gone in the second doubled the Tigers' advantage. UCR halved the deficit less than a minute later when Tessa Lennala (Temecula, CA) scored her sixth goal of the season off a pass from Denise Thomas (San Bernardino, CA).
The final two Pacific scores came with under 10 minutes to go as the Highlanders pulled two defenders and pressed for the tying goal. Wavomba scored her seventh goal of the season with just over seven minutes to play and Angelica Fegueroa found the goal with 3:17 remaining for her third score of the year.
UC Riverside returns home for a pair of Big West Conference games this weekend - Friday October 17 vs. Long Beach State and Sunday October 19 vs. UC Irvine. Both matches are scheduled to kickoff at 6 pm.
