Van Nuys, CA - Both UC Riverside cross country teams were back in action on Friday evening at the Cal State Northridge Invitational at the Wildlife/Cricket/Japanese Garden area of Balboa Park Sepulveda Basin. The UCR men's team, led by a first place finish by sophomore Chad Hall (pictured), took home team medalist honors while the women finished seventh.
The UCR men totaled 15 points as a team -- 40 points ahead of second place Cal State Fullerton. Hall led all runners in the heat-shortened 5k in 14:58.06, 11 seconds ahead of the next finisher, UCR's Emmanuel Ngula (15:09.70).
Steven Crum placed third in 15:19.93, while Jose Melena finished fifth, Talal Kahn planced sixth, and Daniel Lindstrom finished eighth overall for the Highlanders.
UC Riverside women's cross country finished out the Invitational in seventh place with seven runners placing 34th through 40th individually. Camila Alvarez led the Highlanders pack in 19:39.21 in their heat-shortened 5k race.
UC Riverside will have one last tuneup before Big West Championships as they travel to the Titan Invitational on Friday, Oct. 23 in Fullerton, CA.
