Riverside, CA - Anheuser-Busch has teamed up with UC Riverside athletics and has chosen Track & Field junior mid-distance runner Brenda Martinez as the April recipient of the "Budweiser Responsibility Matters Good Sport of the Month." Click here to view all past honorees.
Martinez finished seventh in the mile at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 14, earning All-American honors in the process. Her time of 4:39.58 was just 10 seconds off the pace set by Tennessee's Sarah Bowman (4:29.72). Martinez becomes the first Highlander to earn All-American status in the Division I history of the program.
Martinez earned her bid to the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships by running the mile in a then-school record time of 4:39.92 at the Husky Classic on February 14. That time ranked her in the top-10 in the nation and the Highlanders had their first-ever participant in the Division I Indoor Championships.
