Women Third, Men Sixth At Big West Track & Field Championships

The UC Riverside Women's Track & Field Team got a second place performance out of its 4x400 relay team of Uchechi Egeonuigwe, Marina Young, Ashley Williams and Brenda Martinez (above) to clinch third place at the Big West Conference Track & Field Championships on Saturday.
The men's team locked up sixth place with a fourth place effort out of their 4x400 team of Greg Lemon, AJ Jacobson, Marcus Marbrey and Sean Ferrera. The sixth place finish for the men was their best conference finish in the Division I history of the program.

In other Saturday action, Martinez and Danielle Evans finished first and second in the 1500m. Martinez's time of 4:17.88 was 1.48 of the meet record of 4:16.40 set by UNLV's Trena Hull in 1987 and 4.30 off of her conference record of 4:13.58. In the women's 800m Martinez, Williams, Evans and Brittany Reimer finished in the top four slots, while Allison Wilder and Lauren Reid finished in first and third respectively in the triple jump. Egeonuigwe took fourth in the 400m hurdles, and Karen Han tied for fifth in the high jump clearing 5' 5.00"
On the men's side, Chad Hall won the 5000m (14:26.59) and Ulices Pina finished in third (14:30.61). Hall also finished in second place in the 1500 with an NCAA qualifying time of 3:46.83 missing out on a first place finish by .65 seconds. Jacobson took third in the 200m dash with a time of 21.55, and the 4x100 team of Kevin Fashola, Ferrera, Greg Lemon and Jacobson finished in fifth place. Ferrera and Marbrey took fifth and sixth place in the 400m hurdles.
