Brenda Martinez advanced to the semifinals in the 800m Thursday evening at the USA Track & Field Championships finishing fifth in the third heat of the day with a time of 2:04.78 (watch the race). The top four finishers in each heat of the three heats advanced automatically along with the next top four finishers. Martinez's time was the top amongst non-automatic qualifiers. The semifinals are scheduled for Friday at 5:55 pm PT and will be televised live on ESPN. The finals are slated for Sunday at 1:44 pm with coverage provided by NBC.

Later in the evening, Chad Hall got his first USA Championship experienced running in the first round of the 1500m. His time of 3:50.80 was nine seconds off the pace. (watch the race)
