Highlanders Place 26 Athletes on Big West Spring All-Academic Team

Irvine, CA - The Big West Conference announced today the names of student-athletes who have earned Academic All-Big West Conference honors for the spring sports of baseball, softball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's golf, men's and women's track and field, and women's water polo. UC Riverside placed 26 of its spring athletes on this list, totaling 45 athletes on the year.

To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes have to maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, complete one full year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received (at least a sophomore academically) and competed in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.

Men's track and field led UCR in number of athletes named to the team with six: Michael Buell, Raul Lara, Daniel Lindstrom, Marcus Marbrey, Ulices Pina, and Elvin Tabah.

Women's golf (Jennifer Bermingham, Alexandra Erdman, Michelle Mannix, and Ashlee Yee), women's tennis (Donna McCullough, Erynne Oki, Nadia Sakhakorn, and Yasaman Sakhakorn), and women's track and field (Danielle Evans, TreAna Hundley, Lauren Reid, and Molly Russell) each placed four.

Baseball added three student-athletes (Joey Gonzales, Daniel Pellegrino, and Carl Uhl) while softball (Katie Curtis, Stephanie Marshall) and men's tennis (Felix Macherez, John Park) placed two, and men's golf added one (Scott Clayton).
