Brenda Martinez Tops Past Two NCAA 800m Champions In Belgium

UC Riverside's two-time All-American Brenda Martinez, running the first race of her six-meet European tour in Liege, Belgium, bested the past two NCAA Champions in the 800m and broke her personal record with a time of 2:01.03 (watch the race). Second place finisher Geena Gall is the 2008 and 2009 NCAA Champion in the 800m and third place finisher Alysia Johnson won the title in 2007 (listen to her interview after the race).

Martinez is competing in six events over the next four weeks in Europe. Four of the meets are in Belgium and two are in Germany. The Rancho Cucamonga junior will run the 800m, 1500m and mile at various times during her tour.
