UC Riverside Head Softball Coach Connie Miner announced today the hiring of Franny Morlet as an assistant coach completing the coaching staff for the 2010 season. Morlet joins the Highlanders following one year as a volunteer assistant at Long Beach State and a four-year playing career at The Beach.
"I am excited to announce that Franciska Morlet has joined my coaching staff at UCR," Miner stated. "Franny had an outstanding career at Long Beach State and served on their coaching staff last year.
"The experience Franny gained as a player and coach at LBSU and in the Big West Conference has prepared her well to step right in and make as huge impact in our program. Franny is an outstanding motivator and knows the game well. I am very anxious for her to join our staff."
With Morlet in the 49ers dugout a year ago Long Beach State went 35-21, including a 15-6 mark and third place finish in the Big West, which earned them a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
During her playing days, Morlet helped The Beach to two Big West Conference championships (2005 and 2008), and three trips to the NCAAs. She finished her career with a .250 batting average and a .972 fielding percentage. The speedy left-hander was also 18-for-22 in stolen base attempts.
As a senior, Morlet led the 49ers to their sixth Big West title and 18th NCAA Regional appearance. The All-Big West Honorable Mention selection played in 41 games, starting 32 times as an outfielder. Morlet hit for a career-high .264 clip with 14 runs scored.
Morlet prepped at St. Paul High School in Santa Fe Springs, CA, where she was a four-year letter winner and three-time all-league selection (2002-04). Morlet was tabbed the Del Rey League MVP as a junior and senior, while also being selected to the Press-Telegram Dream Team.
Morlet earned her bachelor's degree in human development in 2009.
