
Men's Soccer Falls 2-1 In Overtime At Saint Mary's (CA)

The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team (0-2-0) appeared headed for its first win of the 2009 season Sunday at Saint Mary's, as they took a 1-0 lead deep into the second half, but the Gaels tied the match at one apiece with 9:20 to play and scored the game-winner just 2:37 into the first overtime period.
Jeremy Clay (pictured) put the Highlanders on the board with his first goal of the season at the 29:58 mark of the first period. Doug Thrasher and Joel Garcia were each credited with assists on the play.
UCR's 1-0 lead held up until late in the second when Emmanuel Sarabia's header off of a cross from Justin Grider found its way past Highlanders keeper Cody Suppé tying the match at one.
In the overtime period, forward Mark Araujo's putback with 2:37 gone gave the Gaels the 2-1 victory.
Next up for the Highlanders is a September 11 road tilt at CSU Bakersfield. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. PT.
