Men's Golf Takes Home Team Title At Bill Cullum Invitational; Fitzgerald 2nd

Simi Valley, CA - Kevin Fitzgerald fired a 67 on Tuesday to help the UC Riverside men's golf team shoot a low third-round score of 287 to claim the team title at the Bill Cullum Invitational. The Highlanders tallied an 871 total score and beat out San Jose State with 873 for medalist honors.
It is the first team win for UCR since winning the Big West Conference Championships on Apr. 26, 2005.
The Highlanders were three shots back of Portland heading into Tuesday's final round of play, but leapfroged the competition using scores of 67-71-73-76.
Host Cal State Northridge finished in third place with 880 followed by Portland in fourth with an 881, and CSU Bakersfield in fifth with an 883.
Fitzgerald's 67 is one shot off his career-best and helped move him up to second place overall and four shots behind the leader, Cal State Northridge's Nick Delio. Fitzgerald finished with a 212 (74-70-67).
Freshman Seong Kim tied for eighth place for UCR with a 216 (71-74-71) total. Robbie Mamo tied for 25th (76-70-67=222) while Matt Fitzgerald tied for 38th (81-72-73=226), and Andrew Patipaksiri finished in 88th (76-85-84=245) to complete the lineup.
The Bill Cullum Invitational concludes the fall portion of the Highlanders 2010 schedule. The team next hits the links at the Arizona Intercollegiate on Jan. 31, 2011.
