Men's Golf Finishes 9th At Anteater Invitational, Clayton 4th Individually

Costa Mesa, CA - Led by senior Scott Clayton's (pictured) four-under-par performance, the UC Riverside men's golf team moved up a spot to finish in ninth place out of 10 teams at the Anteater Invitational on Tuesday at Mesa Verde Country.

The Highlanders finished with a three-round 887 (302-291-294) to move past Cal State Fullerton for the ninth spot. Host UC Irvine won the tournament in a playoff over Santa Clara and finished with an 848 total score.

Clayton's four-under-par placed him fourth individually as his three-round 209 (72-67-70) was off the leader by just seven strokes. UCI's John Chin won the medalist honors with an 11-under-par 202.

Finishing second on the Highlanders squad was junior Kevin Fitzgerald, who lowered his scores each round and totaled 219 (75-74-70) to tie for 25th.

Robbie Mamo, Matt Fitzgerald, and Andrew Patipaksiri finshed T49th, 54th, and 57th respectively. Playing as an individual, Roy Kim placed 55th.

UC Riverside returns to the links to host the Annual Braveheart Classic on Mar. 1-2 at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, CA.

Costa Mesa, CA - The UC Riverside men's golf team opened the spring season on Monday at the Anteater Invitational at Mesa Verde Country Club. After two rounds of play, the Highlanders are in tenth place shooting a 593 (302-291).

Senior Scott Clayton leads the Highlanders squad with a three-under-par 139 (72-67) and is tied for fifth place out of 57 individuals. Kevin Fitzgerald finished second for UCR with a 149 (75-74) and is tied for 39th.

Matt Fitzgerald shot a 152 (78-74) and is tied for 46th while Robbie Mamo (77-76=153) is 51st and Andrew Patipaksiri (79-81=160) is 57th to round out the team.

Playing as an individual, Roy Kim is 56th with a 158 (81-77).

Santa Clara is the current clubouse leader with a two-round 554 and has a 13-stroke advantage over Cal State Northridge (567). UC Irvine (568), UC Santa Barbara (572), and Saint Mary's (579) round out the top five.

UCI's John Chin leads the pack with an 11-under-par 131 (66-65).

The tournament concludes with an 18-hole round on Tuesday morning.
