UCR Women's Soccer Hires Wilt Kishimoto As Assistant Coach

UC Riverside Head Women's Soccer Coach Veronica O'Brien announced today that the team has hired Wilt Kishimoto as the team's new assistant coach. Most recently Kishimoto was the director of soccer at the College of Santa Fe (2008-09). Prior to his stint with the Prairie Dogs, he served as the associate head men's soccer coach (2007-08) and the co-head women's soccer coach (2006-07) at Cal Baptist.
"I am excited to have Wilt join the UCR Women's Soccer Program," said O'Brien. "He brings a wealth of coaching experience with him, and his commitment to excellence and passion for the game are a great fit for our program."
The 37-year-old Kishimoto first joined the Cal Baptist program as an assistant women's soccer coach in 2002. The 2003 squad was ranked ninth in the nation and reached the NAIA quarterfinals. During his time at Cal Baptist, Kishimoto also served as the director of coaching for the Desert United Soccer Club leading that squad to the 2004 state Open Cup Championship
During the summer of 2006, Kishimoto was an assistant coach with the WPSL's San Diego SeaLions helping them advance to the WPSL's first Final Four Tournament held in Salt Lake City, Utah.
From 1996-2003 Kishimoto was a coach with the Riverside United club program where his teams won the 1999 Coast Gold and state Open Cup titles.
A graduate of the University of Redlands with a degree in international relations and a masters in educational counseling, Kishimoto began his collegiate coaching career as the head men's soccer coach at San Bernardino Valley in 1998.
Kishimoto and his wife, Allison, have two children, Abigail and Sophia. In his spare time, he likes to cycle in both road and cyclecross races, play music and spend time with his family.
