Palo Alto, CA - The UC Riverside softball team opened the Stanford Nike Invitational with a 2-0 loss to Sacramento State on Friday afternoon at Smith Family Stadium.
Senior Marissa Alvidrez pitched all seven innings for the Highlanders and gave up nine hits and two runs, both earned, as the Hornets scored one run in the fourth and one in the seventh.
UCR's bats were kept at bay during the game as a double from Brittany Keeney was the lone hit on the scoresheet.
UCR continues the Stanford Nike Invitational with a 4:45 pm game against host Stanford, ranked #11/13, on Friday evening.
