Northridge, CA - Four players in double-figures led the UC Riverside women's basketball team to a 75-53 win at Cal State Northridge in Big West action on Thursday evening at The Matadome. The Highlanders have now defeated the Matadors for the seventh straight time as they improve to 6-3 in conference play and 9-13 overall. CSUN drops to 3-16 overall, 1-8 in Big West play.
UC Riverside took a three-point half time lead and extended it to 30 points 15 minutes later as they benefited from hot shooting, hitting 55.2 percent from the field in the second half and 50.0 percent for the game, including 56.3 percent from three-point range.
Their 56.3 percent from beyond the arc is a new season-high and ranks fifth all-time in UCR history for best three-point field goal percentage in a single game.
Seniors Amber Cox (pictured) and Marissa Rivera led the Highlanders with 16 points while Alyssa Morris had 12 (all in the second half), and Rhaya Neabors added 10. Neabors also had game-highs in rebounds (seven) and assists (six).
The Highlanders took their 28-25 halftime lead and quickly extended it to double-digits at 40-30 capped off by a Morris jumper at the 15:53 mark. The Highlanders' lead hovered around 10 points for the next six minutes until UCR ran off an 18-0 run over a six minute span to lead 72-42 with 4:28 remaining.
With the game in hand, the Highlanders went to their bench as the Matadors cut the lead to 22 to finish out the contest.
UC Riverside scored 21 points off of 17 Matador turnovers and out-scored them 28-20 in the paint. Cal State Northridge shot just 38.0 percent for the game.
The Highlanders return to the Student Recreation Center for a 5:00 pm tip against Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, Feb. 6.
