Kyle Austin, Lateef McMullan Earn Big West Postseason Honors

The Big West Conference released its 2009-10 Men's Basketball All-Conference Teams on Monday naming UC Riverside junior Kyle Austin to the All-Conference, First Team and freshman Lateef McMullan to the All-Freshman squad. It is the second First-Team nod for Austin, who last season became the first member of the Highlanders to earn First-Team accolades.
Austin finished the 2009-10 regular season ranked second in the league in scoring (17.6), fourth in rebounding (7.4), second in offensive rebounds (3.3), 10th in defensive rebounds (4.1), and third in minutes played (34.3). In conference play, the Pasadena, CA native led the Big West in scoring (19.4) while finishing fourth in rebounding (7.4), 10th in field goal percentage (.440), third in three-point field goal percentage (.457). third in offensive rebounds (3.2) and third in minutes played (36.2).
Austin's scoring averages, both overall and in conference, were the highest ever in the Division I history of the proga. He had two 30+-point scoring games this season including a career-high 39 vs. Cal Poly on February 13, and had five double-doubles on the year.
McMullan played in 27 of 29 games for the Highlanders this season, starting nine, and finished eighth in the Big West in three-point field goal percentage connecting on 41.0 percent of his shots from beyond the arc. In conference play, the Gastonia, NC native was 10th in the Big West in free throw percentage (.763). He poured in a career-high 15 points vs. Cal Poly on February 13.
