No. 10 Cal State Fullerton 9, UC Riverside 1 Box Score
Fullerton, CA—A campus-wide power outage at Cal State Fullerton Saturday evening caused the suspension of the Big West Conference baseball game between the Highlanders and Titans with CSF leading 8-1 through five innings. The teams resumed play Sunday afternoon, and the Titans cruised to a 9-1 win to improve their conference leading mark to 14-3.
The Highlanders fell behind early for the second time in as many days as the Titans scored a pair in the bottom of the first. Gary Brown hit a home run over the let field wall with nobody on and one out, and Tyler Pill connected on a solo shot one out later to make it 2-0.
Cal State Fullerton added two more runs in the bottom of the second as Christian Colon's single to left brought home Corey Jones and Anthony Hutting.
UC Riverside finally got on the board in the top of the third as Justin Shults's single through the right side scored Michael Hur to make it 4-1 Titans.
Cal State Fullerton effectively put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fifth plating four Titans before the power outage on campus forced the suspension of the game.
Highlanders starter Dustin Emmons was lifted in the fifth for Derek Speigner, but when play resumed Sunday afternoon, it was Mike Wolford who took the hill for UCR. He allowed one run in the sixth before giving way to Kevin Dickey who threw the final two innings for the Highlanders.
Daniel Renken got the win for Cal State Fullerton pitching all five innings Saturday night and allowing just five hits. Colin O'Connell took to the mound Sunday and pitched four hitless innings to earn his first save of the season.
