Riverside—The American Baseball Coaches Association announced its ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-America Teams at the end of June, and Justin Shults earned a third team nod for his play during the 2010 season.
Spending time as a designated hitter, left fielder and first basemen, Shults came up two hits short of the magic .400 mark, breaking the program’s Division I era record for RBIs, slugging percentage and OPS while crushing 20 doubles and 11 home runs. He also was named to the All-Big West First Team, and UC Riverside Male Student-Athlete of the Year.
His fellow student-athletes on the UC Riverside Student-Athlete Advisory Council also gave him the inaugural SAAC Sports Moment of the Year award voted for his three home run, 16 total bases performance in the Highlanders 18-10 win at UNLV on Apr. 27. Both figures were UC Riverside records.
