Riverside—Former UC Riverside basketball standout Larry Cunningham, who graduated as the leading scorer in the program's history, signed last week to play with Science City Jena in Germany for the 2010-11 season. He reports to Jena, which was 13-17 last season and finished in 11th place in the 16-team ProA League, the first week of August.3
"My three-year goal has been to reach the top level in Germany," Cunningham explained, "and playing in the ProA League is another step towards that. So far I've enjoyed the transition to the international style of play and had some success, and if I continue to perform well, that goal is well within reach."
Cunningham played last season for Landstede Basketball Zwolle in Holland where he averaged 13.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game. In 33 games, he posted seven 20-plus point performances including a season-high 26 on two occasions.
In four season with UC Riverside, the Downey, CA native scored 1,502 points. As a senior, Cunningham scored 490 points establishing what was then a Division I-era record for the program.
