Volleyball Selected Eighth In Big West Preseason Coaches Poll

The UC Riverside women's volleyball team was selected to finish tied for eighth in Big West Conference play this season according to the 2010 Big West Preseason Coaches Poll that was released earlier this morning. The Highlanders earned 14 points in the voting process, tying them with Cal State Northridge for the eighth spot. Complete Release
Long Beach State, winners of the last two conference championships, were tabbed as favorites for the 2010 season. They tallied seven first place votes and 79 total points.
UC Irvine received one first-place vote and a total of 68 points to secure the second spot, with UC Santa Barbara closely following at 65 points and one first-place vote.
Cal State Fullerton was picked fourth with 47 points, while Cal Poly and UC Davis tied for the fifth spot with 45 points apiece.
Pacific was selected seventh with 28 points, followed by the Highlanders and Matadors with 14 points each.
UC Riverside opens the 2010 season at the Fresno State Classic on Aug. 27-28 in Fresno, CA. The Highlanders face off against host Fresno State on Friday at 7:00 pm, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday against Oregon at 10:00 am and Santa Clara at 5:00 pm.
