Late Goal Gives San Jose State 3-2 Men's Soccer Win Over UC Riverside

San Jose, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team traveled to San Jose State Wednesday evening for the 2010 season opener for both teams, but it was the Spartans' Josh Boemecke whose second goal of the night with 14:04 remaining in regulation propelled San Jose State to a 3-2 win.
The Spartans got on the board first in the 27th minute when Boemecke collected Ricky Dorrego's pass and slotted it past UCR keeper Nick Goldreich for a 1-0 lead.
The Highlanders' Jimmy Martinez scored the equalizer with 8:46 to go in the first when Joel Garcia found him on the right side of the box, and Martinez redirected the ball into the bottom left corner.
Dan Addiego put San Jose State on top again 4:55 into the second period on a header following a ricky Martin free kick.
UC Riverside's Cesar Diaz knotted the match up once again in the 69th minute when he took a Ben Sperber pass and deposited it past Spartans keeper Jonathan Lester.
Seven minutes later, Boemecke created space in the center of the box and Allen La Spina found him with a cross for the game winner.
Next up for the Highlanders is a weekend trip to Las Vegas for the UNLV Nike Invitational where they will take on Alabama A&M on Saturday, September 4 at 10:30 am, and Valparaiso on Monday, September 6 at 10 am.
