UC Riverside 5, Alabama A&M 0 Box Score
Las Vegas, Nevada—Alex Racca and Aaron Long each scored a pair of goals Saturday morning to help lead the UC Riveside Men's Soccer Team to a 5-0 win over Alabama A&M in the first match of the UNLV Nike Invitational.
That ties the program record for most goals in a single match set on two occasions—at Cal Poly on October 17, 2004 and at Cal Poly on November 4, 2005. The Highlanders seven assists on the day set a team record breaking the previous mark of five originally set against Cal State Fullerton on November 11, 2001 and later tied against UNLV on October 5, 2003.
Long got UCR on the board first as his shot from five yards out found its way inside the right post in the 17th minute of play. Eleven minutes later, Alex Racca scored from close range to the far left post. He scored his second goal of the match at the 33:11 mark.
The Highlanders took a 3-0 lead into halftime, but they didn't let up in the second period. Hayden Leslie scored the first goal of his career on a one-timer from close range, and Long scored his second goal of the match off of a deflection off the cross bar.
Arnie Sanchez was credited with three assists on the day for the Highlanders, tying the program record for most assists in a match. Luc Harrington was the first to do it against UNLV on October 5, 2003, and Randy Poggio turned the trick at Cal Poly on November 4, 2005.
Nick Goldreich got credit for the win in goal for UC Riverside as he played the first 67 minutes of the match and picked up three saves. Alex Abelson logged the final 23 minutes between the pipes for the Highlanders.
UC Riverside's final match at the UNLV Nike Invitational is against Valparaiso on Monday, September 6 at 10 am PT.
