Women's Soccer Comes Up Short In 1-0 Road Loss To Texas Longhorns
9/5/2010 6:57:15 PM | Women's Soccer
Texas 1, UC Riverside 0 Box Score
Austin, Texas—Jessica White turned away 12 Texas shots on Sunday evening, but the Highlanders were unable to dent the back of the net, and a second-half Longhorns goal gave UT a 1-0 win over UC Riverside.
The Longhorns outshot the Highlanders 13-3 in the first period and 24-7 overall, but the UCR defense made certain that most of those shots came from outside the box. UC Riverside had a few opportunities of its own including four corner kicks in the first, but none found their mark.
Texas got on the board in the 60th minute of play when the Longhorns leading scorer, Leah Fortune, drew the attention of the Highlanders defense to the left side of the box. White got her hand on Fortune's subsequent shot, but Kristin Cummins corraled the rebound and slotted it into the right side of the goal.
White's 12 saves for the match were the fourth most in the history of the program, and marked the second time this season that she cracked double-figures.
The Highlanders remain on the road this week as they travel to San Francisco for a Friday, September 10 meeting with the Dons. Kick off is slated for 7 pm PT.
