Irvine, CA—The Big West Conference announced Monday that UC Riverside Head Men's Soccer Coach Junior Gonzalez was named the Big West Conference Coach of the Year, and senior forward Cesar Diaz Pizarro earned Co-Offensive Player of the Year honors.
Diaz Pizarro was also named First-Team, All-Conference after earning a spot on the Honorable Mention squad a year ago. Sophomore forward Richie Osborne, junior defender Jose Diaz and senior goalkeeper Cody Suppé all were named to the Honorable Mention squad this season.
The Highlanders finished the year with a 9-6-4 mark setting a program record for wins in the process. They advanced to the Big West Conference Tournament for the first time in program history before losing 2-0 to UC Irvine in the semifinals. Despite an RPI of 34 heading into the conference tournament, UC Riverside was unable to secure an at-large bid in the 48-team NCAA Tournament field.
