UC Riverside 2, CSU Bakersfield 0 - Box Score
Bakersfield, CA—UC Riverside starter Matt Andriese (2-3) became the first Highlanders pitcher in the team's Division I era to throw a one-hitter, as UCR (18-14) beat CSU Bakersfield 2-0 Saturday evening.
Trevor Hairgrove's single up the middle in the top of the third gave UC Riverside all the runs they needed as Phil Holinsworth and Dan Pellegrino scored on the play to give the Highlanders a 2-0 lead.
The Roadrunners picked up their lone hit of the evening in the bottom of the fifth when Oscar Sanay sinlged through the left side, but he was quickly erased on a double play grounder.
Andriese struck out three and didn't allow a walk on the night. CSUB starter Mike McCarthy didn't pitch badly, giving up just five hits and two walks in nine innings of work while striking out three. Both of the runs he allowed were unearned due to an error by center fielder Andrew Letourneau.
The Highlanders and Roadrunners square off again Sunday with first pitch slated for 1 pm PT.
