The UC Riverside Athletics Department hosted its 2010-11 Highlanders Awards Celebration on Sunday evening at Hub 302 on UCR's campus, honoring the achievements of the 2010-11 Highlanders student-athletes. Women's Soccer player Shelley Brumbaugh won the Iron Highlander award on the women's side, while men's tennis athlete Kevin Griffin won it on the men's side.
Brumbaugh is a freshman and from the beginning has shown the enthusiasm and work ethic necessary to be a true competitor. She has shown that she wants to get better and wants her teammates to get better.
She never misses reps in a workout and even when she finishes ahead of her teammates, Brumbaugh encourages and cheers them on so that they can get better themselves.
