Irvine, CA—The Big West handed out its end-of-season hardware Tuesday afternoon, and the league's nine coaches named UC Riverside relief pitcher Dylan Stuart the conference's Freshman Pitcher of the Year.
The Riverside native appeared in 18 games for the Highlanders, all in relief, posting an earned run average of 1.72 on the season while striking out 29 batters in 31.1 innings.
Stuart began his collegiate career by throwing 14 consecutive scoreless innings finally getting touched for a single run in a 3.0 inning stint in a 5-4, extra-innings win over then 16th-ranked UCLA. Included in that streak was a 5.2 innings effort against Air Force in which the left-hander struck out seven batters and allowed just five hits.
