#10 Cal State Fullerton 3, UC Riverside 2 - Box Score
Riverside—Tenth-ranked Cal State Fullerton (33-13, 14-4) completed a three-game Big West Conference series sweep of the Highlanders Sunday afternoon breaking a 1-1 tie with single runs in the seventh and eighth for a 3-2 victory.
UC Riverside (23-18, 6-9) touched Titans starter Dylan Floro for 10 hits in the first five innings, but managed just one run as they had two runners thrown out at the plate on the day.
Cal State Fullerton put together a two-out rally in the top of the first to plate their first run as Michael Lorenzen beat out an infield single, stole second, and scored when Greg Velazquez laced a double to left center.
UC Riverside got the run back in the bottom half of the inning as Phil Holinsworth ripped a one-out single to left, stole second, and moved to third on Trevor Hairgrove's infield single. Ryan Goetz then laid down a bunt, but it bounced back directly to pitcher Dylan Floro who was able to gun down Holinsworth streaking in from third. Justin Shults drilled a two-out single back up the box scoring Hairgrove to make it a 1-1 ballgame.
Colin O'Connell relieved Floro to start the sixth and pitched three perfect innings before giving way to Nick Ramirez in the ninth. By that time, the Titans had regained the lead thanks to a Tyler Pill RBI single in the seventh and a Velazquez RBI bunt.
Shults' double to right cener in the bottom of the ninth scored Hairgrove, but Ramirez nailed down his 12th save of the season on a Nix fly out to center.
The Highlanders travel to San Diego this Tuesday for a 6pm PT meeting with the Toreros, before heading to Northridge over the weekend for a three-game series with the Matadors.
