UCR Places 20 On Big West Conference Spring All-Academic Team

Irvine, CA - The Big West Conference announced today that 20 members of the Highlanders spring sports teams were honored with inclusion on the 2011 Big West Conference Spring All-Academic Team.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, complete one full academic year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received (at least a sophomore academically), and compete in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.
UCR Women's Track & Field led all Highlanders teams by placing five athletes: Camila Alvarez, Katy Daly, Chelsey Kamson, Brittany Reimer, and Reanne Swafford. Men's Track & FIeld was next with four student-athletes on the team: Steven Crum, Kevin Fashola, Peter Guenther, and Brett Valencia.
The Highlanders Men's Tennis Team placed three athletes on the team in Felix Macherez, Sean Peterson, and Ryan Stanbury. Baseball (Dan Pellegrino, Bart Steponovic), Women's Tennis (Natalie McKay, Nadia Sakhakorn), and Men's Golf (Kevin Fitzgerald, Matt Fitzgerald) each placed two.
Rounding out UCR's spring teams are softball and women's golf, who placed one each in the form of Ariel Shore and Ashlee Yee respectively.
