Johnson Has Career High but UCR Falls to UTEP

Sophomore guard Chris Johnson had a career night, but it wasn't enough as the UC Riverside Highlanders lost their ninth consecutive game Tuesday when they dropped a 95-55 decsion to the host UTEP Miners in a non-conference game at the Haskins Center in El Paso.
The Highlanders are now 3-11 overall, while UTEP improves to 8-6.
Johnson accounted for more than half of the Highlanders points with a career-high 28 points of off the bench, hitting six three pointers. He was 10-of-16 overall and 6-of-9 from the three point line. Senior guard Dedrick Bates and freshman forward Henrik Thomsen each had 11 points. The other seven Highlander players accounted for only five points.
Dale Vanwright and Stefon Jackson each had 18 points for the Miners. The Miners shot 53.6 percent from the field and made 13-of-15 free-throw attempts in the first half, taking a 46-28 lead into the break. The Miners won the battle on the boards, 42-24, including a 15-6 advantage on the offensive glass.
Senior guard Justin Bell did not play with a strained right foot.
