Women's Soccer Tops Mississippi State, 3-0, In Game One Of Invitational
8/26/2011 7:45:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Riverside—The Highlanders took game one of the UC Riverside Women's Soccer Invitational Friday evening, 3-0, over visiting Mississippi State thanks to goals by Aaren Casimiro, Deborah Musa and Andrea Morales.
Casimiro got the Highlanders on the board first as her shot from 35 yards out beat Bulldogs keeper Skylar Rossen to the left side of the goal in the 28th minute of play. It was the first career goal for the junior from Murrieta, CA.
Less than two minutes later, UC Riverside lined up for a corner kick which Kristy Adcock collected on the right side of the field 35 yards away from the goal. She shot it through the box to Lindsey Ahmed, who in turn found Deborah Musa in front of the net for a 2-0 Highlanders lead.
It was still a 2-0 match when, with 11:31 left on the clock, Morales grabbed a Bulldogs defensive miscue and beat the keeper one-on-one for the first goal of her carer and the final margin of victory.
Jessica Olafsen, making her first career start in goal for UC Riverside, finished with five saves on the night.
The Highlanders take on San Jose State on Sunday at 1 pm in the final match of the invitational for both squads.
GAME NOTES
The Highlanders scored as many goals in tonight's match as they did all of last season.
The Highlanders last scored three or more goals in a match in a 3-2 win at Cal State Fullerton on October 26, 2008.
