Irvine, CA—The Big West announced today that UC Riverside senior defender Kayde Hensley was named the conference's defensive player of the week.
Hensley helped the Highlanders to a pair of wins over the weekend vs. Mississippi State and San Jose State at the UCR Women's Soccer Invitational. UC Riverside blanked the Bulldogs 3-0 on Friday, August 26, thanks in large part to Hensley's defensive efforts, and she scored the game-winning goal in double overtime against San Jose State on Sunday, August 28 rocketing a shot from 35 yards out for the 2-1 victory.
The wins improved the Highlanders record to 2-1-1. The last time UCR was above the .500 mark was in early October of 2009 when they were 5-4-3 before dropping a 2-0 decision to Cal Poly on October 9
