Jose Diaz's Second-Half Header Gives Highlanders 2-1 Win Over UNLV

Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team moved over the .500 mark for the first time since October of 2007 Friday evening with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over visiting UNLV. Jose Diaz's header on a Hayden Leslie throw in the 67th minute of play provided the Highlanders with their final margin of victory. (Box Score)

UNLV got on the scoreboard first after UCR was called for a panelty in their own defensive box setting up a Rebels penalty kick. Jonny Espinoza converted in the 41st minute to stake UNLV to a 1-0 advantage.

With 9:56 gone in the second half, the Highlanders benefited from a Rebels penalty of their own, and Julio Reyes' penalty kick tied the match at one setting up Diaz's heroics.

It was a banner day for UC Riverside athletics as the women's soccer team beat North Texas, 2-1, and the volleyball team swept its two matches at the Hilton Stockton Invitational. It is the first time that all three teams won on the same date since September 8, 2006.

Next up for the Highlanders is a Sunday, September 18 home match against San Jose State. Kick off is slated for noon PT.
