Riverside—Yes, we have said that UC Riverside has spent the Division I era trying to distance itself from its Division II past.
Saturday night, the athletic department and its friends in the community stopped running, turned around and gave that heritage a huge bear hug.
The re-launch of the school's athletic Hall of Fame after a 14-year hiatus was a good first step. Bringing back seven coaches and administrators who made their bones in Division II was an even more eloquent statement.
