Martin Named Budweiser Responsibility Matters Good Sport Of The Month

Riverside—Anheuser-Busch has teamed up with the UC Riverside Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and chosen men's basketball player Phil Martin as the January recipient of the "Budweiser Responsibility Matters Good Sport of the Month." Martin led the Highlanders to a 4-2 record averaging 16.2 points while shooting 44.7 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from three-point range. He also averaged 5.3 rebounds per game while blocking the second most shots on the team (5) and picking up the second most steals (5).
The Staten Island, NY native began the month with back-to-back 25-point scoring performances at Montana State and UC Santa Cruz. He added 10 boards against the Bobcats for his third career double-double. On Dec. 19, the Highlanders traveled to San Diego State where Martin scored a team-high 16 points.
Martin currently ranks second in the Big West in scoring, 15th in rebounding, second in free throw percentage and fifth in minutes per game.
