Irvine, CA—The Big West Conference announced today that UC Riverside guard Phil Martin is the Conference Player of the Week for January 2-8. It is the second such award for the Staten Island, NY native who was also honored on February 7, 2011.
Martin averaged 25.0 points per game on 50.0 percent shooting from the field in the Highlanders 2-1 week which saw them beat UC Davis on the road for the first time since the 2007 season, and win at Pacific for just the second time in 13 tries.
Martin was the game-high scorer in each of the Highlanders games netting 22 vs. Cal State Northridge, 24 at UC Davis and a career-high-tying 29 at Pacific. Martin scored 42.6 percent of the Highlanders points over the week, and 48 of his 75 points came in the second half.
