Women's Golf Moves Up To 4th To Conclude Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate

Palm Desert, CA - The UC Riverside Women's Golf Team fired a third-round 300 Sunday morning to conclude the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate in fourth place out of 19 squads with a 916 total score.
The Highlanders were tied for 11th place after a first round score of 316, but moved up into sixth place following a second-round 300, and improved two places further with a final 300.
For the second consecutive round, UCR used four scores in the 70's, led by Amelia Ek's consistent 73-73-73 (219). Ek finished in fourth place overall out of 104 individuals, trailing the leader, College of Charleston's Kathy Boehm (216), by just three shots.
Fresno State held on to their day-one lead winning the team event with an 885 score. College of Charleston came in second with an 898 followed by Cal State Fullerton with 899.
The Highlanders were next with 916, and finished higher than three other Big West schools in the tournament: Hawai'i (9th, 932); Cal Poly (11th, 942); and Cal State Northridge (15th, 953).
After Ek, Savannah Vilaubi was the other Highlanders player to shoot all three rounds in the 70s, placing 12th with a 225 (76-74-75).
Freshman Hannah Lee shot 237 (83-74-80) to tie for 45th, while Brittani Ferraro tied for 55th with 84-79-77 (240), and Christy Fogerty saved her best for last, carding a 245 (84-86-75) to tie for 79th.
Playing as an individual, Tiffany Koyano tied for 49th overall with a 239 (79-78-82).
UC Riverside now has just one week off before traveling to the Santa Clara Colby Invitational on October 22-23 in San Jose, CA.
