Men's Golf Falls To 19th To Conclude Bill Cullum Invitational

Simi Valley, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Golf Team concluded the fall portion of its schedule Tuesday at the Bill Cullum Invitational with a three-round score of 922 to place 19th out of 20 squads at Wood Ranch Golf Club.
The second round of play was suspended Monday night due to darkness, and was finished up Tuesday morning before the start of the third and final round.
UCR was in 17th after one complete round with a 307, but lowered its total by nine shots in the second round (298) to move up to 15th, before firing a 317 in the third round.
San Diego ran away with the team title, shooting a 14-under-par 850 to win by nine shots over Arizona State (859). Washington State came in third place (866) followed by two Big West squads in Cal State Fullerton (868) and UC Irvine (872).
David Gazzolo recorded the best finish for the Highlanders, placing in a tie for 41st with a 225 (73-72-80).
Ryan Smith carded the low round of the day for UCR, shooting a 78 to tie for 69th place with a 231 (78-75-78) total. Christian Rajcic also fired a 231 (77-74-80) to tie for 69th.
BJ Doucett (82-77-79) and Jason Semthiti (79-77-82) both tied for 88th place with identical three-round totals of 238.
Arizona State's Jon Rahm Rodriguez won the individual crown with a 12-under-par 204, three shots ahead of second-place Grant Forrest of San Diego with a 207.
The Highlanders return to the links on January 28-29, 2013 at the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson, AZ.
