Men's Golf Finishes Third At Firestone Grill Inv, Doucett Places Fifth

Nipomo, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Golf Team started and ended the day in third place out of 10 teams Tuesday at the Firestone Grill Cal Poly Invitational, concluding the event with a three-round 862 score.
The Highlanders carded scores of 287-289-286, and finished 11 shots back of second-place Cal State Fullerton (851), and 15 strokes behind the winner, the host Cal Poly Mustangs (847).
BJ Doucett paced the UCR squad tying for fifth overall with a 212 (71-68-73) while David Gazzolo shaved a stroke off his score each round with a 73-72-71 (216) to tie for 11th.
Ryan Smith tied for 20th place firing scores of 75-72-72 (219), while Jason Semthiti was a stroke back at 220 (68-78-74) to tie for 27th. Matt Fitzgerald rounded out the team with a 223 (76-77-70) to tie for 31st.
UCLA's Jonathan Garrick won the individual crown with a 201 three-round total.
Next up for the Highlanders is the Bill Cullum Invitational on October 22-23 in Simi Valley, CA.
