Volleyball Concludes Season With 3-0 Loss At #8 Hawai'i

Honolulu, HI - The UC Riverside Volleyball Team concluded the 2012 season Friday evening with a 3-0 loss at #8 Hawai'i, 25-17, 25-17, and 25-23.
Ashley Cox led the Highlanders (8-24, 2-16) with nine kills while Amanda Vialpando added eight, and Tyler Dorsey tied for the match-high with three blocks. UH's Emily Hartong led all players with 13 kills.
The Wahine (26-2, 18-0) led from the get-go in set one, and opened up the frame turning a 14-10 lead into a 20-11 advantage before winning 25-17.
The Highlanders had the early 2-1 lead in the second set, but Hawai'i scored three straight to go up 4-2. The teams traded points over the next few vollies, but the Highlanders never got closer than one the rest of the way as UH steadily built a lead on their way to a 25-17 victory.
UC Riverside had the lead over Hawai'i in the third set, turning a 6-6 tie into a 10-6 advantage. Dorsey's service ace capped off the 4-0 rally, but the Wahine scored three unanswered to cut the lead to one, 10-9.
The Highlanders then built a 16-11 margin, and still led 17-14 a few points later. UH countered and tied the set at 17, and the teams battled back and forth with three more tie scores through 20-20.
UH then went up at match-point, 24-22, but a Vialpando kill made it a one-point game, 24-23. However, the Wahine closed out the match with a kill to conclude the 25-23 victory.
