UCR won the first two sets, 25-23 and 26-24, but the Anteaters won set three, 25-19. There were 13 tie scores and four lead changes in the fourth set, but the Highlanders prevailed, coming away victorious with a 25-21 win.

UCR fell behind early in the first set, 10-6, after giving up five straight points. The Highlanders eventually tied the set at 13, and went on to take a 20-15 advantage.
The blue and gold then led at set-point, 24-19, but UC Irvine crawled to within one, 24-23, following four consecutive points. After a timeout, Megan Reza connected on a pass from Emily Borges, and her kill was successful as UCR held on for the 25-23 win.
It was UC Riverside taking a 15-10 lead in set two, but the Anteaters went on a 6-0 run taking a 16-15 advantage. The teams then traded points with six tie scores through 21-21.
UCI then went up at set-point, 24-23, but three straight errors by the Anteaters proved fatal as UC Riverside went on for the 26-24 win, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.
After two ties scores early in the third set, UC Irvine went up and never gave the lead back, eventually winning 25-19 to close the match to 2-1.
Neither team led by more than a couple points in the fourth set as there were 13 ties scores through 17-17. At that point, however, the Highlanders scored five straight off of three Cox kills, a Reza kill, and a UCI error to go up 22-17.
UCR had the set in hand, as two more Cox kills put them up at match-point, 24-20, and a Vialpando kill sealed the 25-21 win.
