Box Score - Fresno State 7, UC Riverside 3
Fresno, CA - After picking up its first victory of the season on Saturday morning, the UC Riverside softball team looked to make it two in a row later in the day, but could not prevail, dropping a 7-3 decision to Fresno State at the Fresno State Tournament.
The Highlanders got on board first with two runs in the second inning. Three consecutive singles from Kaylie Atkinson, Dionne Anderson, and Jordyn McDonald loaded the bases, and Kayla White's single and subsequent advance to second base off of an error plated the two runs.
The Bulldogs scored the equalizer an inning later with a 2-RBI home run.
It was still a 2-2 ball game heading into the sixth inning when the Highlanders took the lead with a single run. However, the Bulldogs exploded for five runs in the bottom of the frame to go up 7-3.
UCR was retired in order in the top of the seventh as Fresno State took home the victory.
McDonald suffered the loss for the Highlanders, allowing six earned runs and six hits in 5.1 innings of work.
UC Riverside concludes play at the Fresno State Tournament on Sunday with a single game against Sacramento State at 11:30 am.
