Box Score - UC Riverside 12, South Dakota 4 (5 innings)
Riverside, CA - The UC Riverside softball team avenged an earlier loss to South Dakota with a 12-4 rout in five innings to conclude play at the aTen Construction Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
UC Riverside (4-10) got on board first, scoring a solo run in the bottom of the first inning. Brittany Keeney reached base on an error by the South Dakota (1-8) second baseman, and advanced all the way to third. After a walk, Dionne Anderson singled up the middle to send Keeney home, making it a 1-0 ballgame.
After a scoreless second by both teams, the Highlanders exploded for five runs in the third inning. Keeney led off with a single to right field, and Jessca Vasser drew a walk.
Dionne Anderson then reached on error by the second baseman, which allowed Keeney to score from second. With one out, Alexis Pickett laced a double to left field, scoring both runners and putting UCR up 4-0.
Yesenia Duenas sacrificed Pickett over to third base, and Halle Luna came through with a squeeze bunt that scored Pickett.
After Luna stole second, Kayla White brough her home with a double to centerfield, as the Highlanders took a 6-0 lead.
The Coyotes cut at UCR's lead in the next inning, though, scoring four runs on three hits and two errors.
With two runners on, Bree Zmolek hit a homer off UCR starter Casey Suda, making it a 6-3 game. After allowing the next batter to hit a double, Suda was replaced by Taylor Alvarez in the circle. Christine Broders then reached on an error, allowing the runner from second to score.
Alvarez got out of the inning without another run scoring, however, as Stephanie Hall got out on a sac bunt, Broders was caught stealing, and Lindsey Boyd struck out to end the frame.

Keeney continued the hot hitting for the Highlanders with a single to right field, and the right fielder mishandled the ball as two runners came home. Jessca Vasser drew an intential walk, and Dionne Anderson's fielder's choice brought Shore home for the final 12-4 score.
