2/14/2012 9:06:00 AM | Men's Soccer
Riverside—UC Riverside Men's Soccer Coach Junior Gonzalez announced today that four players signed National Letters Of Intent to join the Highlanders in the fall of 2012—goalkeeper Ashkan Khosravi, defenders Jacob Arrieta and Philipp Dominique, and midfielder Eric Gonzalez.
“We pride ourselves in keeping the best local talent here in the Inland Empire," said Gonzalez. "There is a tremendous talent pool in our surrounding areas, and it is exciting to know that three players of the highest caliber have decided to become a part of the future of Highlanders Men’s Soccer.”
Plano West High School (Texas)
Andromeda FC
Dallas Texans
Khosravi is native of Iran who played on his country's National League Championship Team in 2007 and 2008. After relocating to Dallas, Texas, he was named District Newcomer of the Year, All-District First-Team and Plano West Team MVP in 2010. He followed that up with another Team MVP performance in 2011. In addition, he played two seasons with the US Soccer Development Academy—in 2010-11 with Andromeda FC and in 2011-12 with the Dallas Texans.
Coach Gonzalez says ... "Ashkan is a very athletic, fundamentally sound goalkeeper that has international experience competing with the Iranian Youth National Team. He is a great addition to our program and we look forward to his arrival in the fall."
Jacob Arrieta (Bio)
Arsenal FC Development Academy
Arietta began playing for his local Arsenal FC Development Academy at the age of 15 where they won the league for three straight seasons, advancing to the national cup finals where they lost 1-0. He played in Bari, Italy with his club team taking on Inter Milan, Sampdoria FC, Bari FG and Sparta Praga. Arietta was also team captain every season with his club team.
Coach Gonzalez says ... "Jacob is a quality defensive midfield player that is physically gifted and sharp on the tactical side of the game. He has the potential to become a dominant holding midfielder within our program and in the Big West Conference. "
Philipp Dominique (Bio)
Redlands East Valley High School
Arsenal FC Development Academy
Dominique's Redlands East Valley teams went a combined 30-7-5 over his freshman and sophomore seasons advancing to the CIF quarterfinals both years, and he was named All-League as a sophomore. He played in the US Soccer Development Academy for Arsenal DC as a junior and senior.
Coach Gonzalez says ... "Phillip is a strong, talented, left-footed outside defender that is good in the air and can attack from deeper positions on the field at pace. I am confident that Phillip will develop a great deal in our competitive training environment to compete for a starting position."
Eric Gonzalez (Bio)
Santiago High School
LA Galaxy
Chivas USA
Eric was a member of the LA Galaxy Academy team that won the U.S. Soccer U 16 National Title in 2011. His Santiago High School team went 13-0-1 during his junior season winning its first-ever league title, and Eric was named Press-Enterprise Soccer Player of the Year in 2011. He is currently training with the Chivas USA First Team.
Coach Gonzalez says ... "Eric is a smart technical left-sided player that brings USA youth national team and US Development academy experience with him. His service, vision, and finishing ability will contribute to our team's attack and complement our style of play well."
