UCR Softball Shuts Out Hawks 4-0 To Open Amy S. Harrison Classic

Riverside, CA - Jordyn McDonald pitched a shutout for the UC Riverside softball team on Friday afternoon as the Highlanders defeated Saint Joseph's 4-0 in the opening game of the Amy S. Harrison Classic.
McDonald earned the win, allowing just five hits while striking out five.
It was a scoreless ballgame through two and a half innings until the Highlanders offense put a three-spot on the board in the third.
Kayile Atkinson drew a walk, and Halle Luna was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. Kayla White then laced a triple down the right field line, scoring both runners for the 2-0 lead.
White would eventually score on a wild pitch from Hawk's pitcher Erin Gallagher to put UCR up 3-0.
SJU threatened in the next frame with runners at the corners, but McDonald got out of the jam unscathed.
The Highlanders added an insurance run in the sixth to increase their advantage to 4-0, and McDonald pitched a scoreless seventh inning to secure the victory.
UC Riverside continues play at the Amy S. Harrison Classic on Saturday with a 2:00 pm game against Quinnipiac.
