4/29/2012 1:23:00 PM | Softball
Box Score - Long Beach State 6, UC Riverside 0
Long Beach, CA - The UC Riverside softball team (20-27, 3-12) recorded two hits on the day and allowed six runs to score within the first two innings, dropping a 6-0 decision to Long Beach State (23-22, 11-4) on Sunday afternoon in Big West Conference action at the 49er Softball Complex.
Long Beach touched UCR starter Amy Lwin for two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Lwin hit Shayna Kimbrough with a pitch to lead off the frame, and gave up a single to Leilani Tapua-Tautal. An outfield fly advanced Kimbrough to third, and a sac fly by Karli Sandoval brought her home.
After Tapua-Tautal stole second, Nalani St. Germain singled up the middle and scored the runner as LBSU went up 2-0.
The next inning, the 49ers put up a four-spot to increase their lead to 6-0.
Lwin gave way to Taylor Alvarez in the circle after allowing consecutive lead-off singles. With the bases loaded and one out, the Highlanders recorded back-to-back errors on two fielder's choices, allowing three unearned runs to come across.

With two outs, St. Germain singled for the second time, scoring Hannah De Gaetano from second base for the 6-0 advantage.
Alvarez settled down after that inning, giving up just two hits the rest of the way, but the UCR offense could not put runs across.
Dionne Anderson and Jessica Vasser drew back-to-back walks to open the fourth inning, and advanced 60 feet on a wild pitch. UC Riverside failed to capitalize on any runs, however, as both runners were left stranded as three consecutive outs ended the inning.
That turned out to the the Highlanders best chance to score, as they had just two base runners the rest of the game, as the 49ers completed the series sweep with the victory.
UC Riverside now returns home to host Cal State Northridge for a three-game Big West series on May 5-6 at Amy S. Harrison Field in Riverside.
