Men's Golf Concludes 2012 Big West Championship In Ninth Place

La Quinta, CA—The UC Riverside Men's Golf Team concluded play at the 2012 Big West Conference Championship on Tuesday afternoon with a final three-round score of 909 to place ninth out of nine teams at La Quinta Resort Mountain Course.
The Highlanders entered the final round in ninth place, but could not make up any ground as they shot 18-over for the day, carding a 306. UCR's 909 total (294-309-306) was 14 strokes behind eighth-place Cal State Northridge.
UC Davis won the team title by one stroke over Long Beach State, 858 to 859. Cal State Fullerton came in third with an 861 followed by Pacific (863) and UC Santa Barbara (867).
Matt Fitzgerald (78-75-73) lowered his scores in each subsequent round for UC Riverside, tying with teammate Ryan Smith (76-74-76) for 33rd place with identical 226 totals.
Jason Semthiti tied for 37th with rounds of 70-80-78 (228), while BJ Doucett finished 40th with a 232 (71-80-81), and David Gazzolo placed 42nd with a 240 (77-82-79).
Pacific's Alex Edfort won the individual title with a 13-under-par 203, five shots ahead of Cal State Fullerton's Mark Anguiano (208).
