UC Riverside Remains Unbeaten Following 5-0 Win Over North Florida

Riverside—The UC Riverside Men's Soccer Team solidified its top 25 national ranking Friday evening as the Highlanders improved tp 6-0-0 on the season with a 5-0 win over North Florida at the UCR/Courtyard by Marriott Soccer Invitational (Box Score/Video Highlights).
Ruben Valencia put the Highlanders on the board with 17:03 gone in the first as he rose above the Ospreys defense following a Richie Osborne corner kick to head the ball past keeper Brad Sienkiewicz.
Sienkiewicz was replaced less than two minutes later by Kyle Nasta, but he didn't fare any better as Ivan Garcia was on the receiving end of passes from Osborne and Neil Ignacio to put the Highlanders up 2-0 with 22:12 gone in the period.
Aaron Long made it 3-0 UCR with 11 seconds to go before the half when Otis Earle's cross was redirected by Ulises Mosqueda, and Long was there to push it past the North Florida defense.
The Highlanders didn't let up in the second period as Joseph O'Connor put UC Riverside up 4-0 following the rebound of a missed shot.
Mosqueda notched the final score of the match in the 58th minute of action when Earle found him free in the box for his first goal of the season.
The Highlanders take on Nebraska Omaha on Sunday in the final match of the invitational for both teams. Kick off is slated for 9:30 am
GAME NOTES
The Highlanders current six-match unbeaten streak ties the program record originally set in the 2011 season.
UC Riverside's five goals tied the program's Division I-era record for goals in a match accomplished on three other occasions.
The Highlanders have four shutout sin seven matches so far this season. They had just three shutouts in all of 2011, and the program's Division I era record for shutout sin a season is six last done in the 2007 season.
SAN DIEGO STATE 3, NEBRASKA OMAHA 2
In the first match of the UCR/Courtyard by Marriott Soccer Invitational San Diego State picked up a 3-2 win over Nebraska Omaha.
The Aztecs' Jordan Ongaro scored just 4:26 into the match as the Mavs defense miscommunicated on a pass back to the goalie, and Ongaro was there to take advantage of the open goal.
Twenty one minutes later, Nebraska Omaha's tied the score at one. Giovanni Giattino's shot bounced off of teammate Vane Rockwood, but Rockwood was able to secure it and scored from 11 yards out.
With 13:58 remaining in the first, San Diego State scored what would prove to be the game-winner as Tyrone Martin found John Pegg just outside the box for a 2-1 lead.
The Aztecs went up two with 14:27 gone in the second as Blake Wise found Casey Meuser with a through ball and Meuser converted from 10 yards out.
With 10 seconds remaining in the match, Craig Buettner's cross was redirected by Giattino for the final 3-2 score.
The Aztecs take on North Florida on Sunday in the final match of the UCR/Courtyard by Marriott Soccer Invitational at 3:30 pm PT, while the Mavs take on the host Highlanders at 9:30 am.
