Women's Cross Country Takes Second At UCR Invite; DuBose Places Third

Riverside—UC Riverside senior Damajeria DuBose finished third individually out of 132 runners to pace the women's cross country team to a second place finish out of 16 teams Saturday morning in the 6k Invitational at the 32nd Annual UCR meet.
The Highlanders tied with Nike Team Run LA for second place with 76 points, while Southern Utah took the crown with three runners in the top five to finish with 31 points.
Big West Conference rival UC Santa Barbara came in fourth place with 90 points, while Claremont rounded out the top five with 130 points.
DuBose's time of 20:33.4 was a personal-best and just three seconds behind the winner, Southern Utah's Jamie Smith (20:30.6), and a second back of Sylvia Bedford of SUU (20:32.5).
Jzsanette Lindstrom recorded a 6k personal-best while she and Katy Daly finished back-to-back in 13th and 14th place with times of 21:09.2 and 21:10.3 respectively, while Alisha Brown also ran a personal-best in 21:19.8 to finish 19th for the Highlanders.
Raquel Hefflin was fifth for UCR with a time of 21:38.6 to place 27th, while Brianna Simmons finished 30th in 21:41.6. Jaasmin Pina ran the 6k in 22:30.4 to place 51st, while Maryann Holliday rounded out the squad in 86th with a time of 23:25.8.
"I thought the ladies did extremely well," Head Coach Irv Ray stated. "I was really pleased with them."
UC Riverside had three individuals running in the 5k Open race, with Brittany Fellows finishing in 113th place with a time of 20:48.5; Sarah Chavez finishing in 134th with a time of 21:21.1; and Elizabeth Guzman finishing 144th in 21:35.6.
UC Riverside now has two weeks off before the Dellinger Invitational on September 29 in Eugene, OR.
